OneDrive is your free Jersey College cloud storage that comes with Microsoft 365. Saving your coursework to OneDrive means your files are backed up online, safe if your computer is lost or breaks, and reachable from any device you sign in to. Here is how to use it.
Why OneDrive protects your coursework:
- Files saved in OneDrive are stored online, not just on one computer, so a broken or lost laptop will not take your assignments with it.
- You can open the same file from your computer, phone, or any web browser by signing in.
- OneDrive keeps earlier versions of a file, so you can recover work if something gets deleted or overwritten by mistake.
Get to your OneDrive:
- Go to https://office.com and sign in with your full Jersey College email (firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu) and password.
- Click the "OneDrive" tile or icon. This opens your personal cloud storage in the browser.
Save a file to OneDrive from an Office app:
- In Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, click "File", then "Save As" (or "Save a Copy").
- Choose your Jersey College OneDrive as the location (it usually appears as "OneDrive" followed by the school's name).
- Give your file a name and click "Save". From now on your changes save to the cloud automatically.
Upload a file you already have on your computer:
- On the OneDrive page in your browser, click "Upload", then "Files".
- Find the file on your computer, select it, and click "Open". It will appear in your OneDrive in a few moments.
Share a file with an instructor or classmate:
- In OneDrive, hover over the file and click the "Share" button, or right-click the file and choose "Share".
- Type the person's email address.
- To control whether they can change the file, open the permission setting (often a pencil or settings option) and choose "Can edit" or "Can view".
- Click "Send". They will receive a link by email.
Tips:
- For most assignment submissions, your instructor will want you to upload the file directly into Canvas. Use OneDrive sharing only when an instructor specifically asks for a shared link.
- Be careful sharing files that contain personal or patient-related information; only share with the intended person.
- Look for the green check mark on a file to confirm it has finished syncing to the cloud.
