The Canvas Student app lets you check your courses, submit work, and get notifications right from your phone or tablet. Here's how to install it and sign in with your Jersey College account.

Install the app

1. Open the app store on your device: the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, or the Google Play Store on an Android phone or tablet.

1. Search for "Canvas Student" (the icon is a red square with a white pencil-and-ruler logo). Be sure to pick "Canvas Student" and not "Canvas Teacher" or "Canvas Parent."

1. Tap Get or Install and wait for it to finish downloading.

1. Open the app once it is installed.

Find your school and sign in

1. The first time you open the app, it asks you to find your school. Tap "Find my school" (or the school search box).

1. Type Jersey College and choose it from the list. If it does not appear, type the full address instead: jerseycollege.instructure.com

3. On the Jersey College sign-in screen, sign in with your Jersey College credentials:
- Username: your firstname.lastname (for example, jane.smith) or your full email, jane.smith@jerseycollege.edu
- Password: the same password you use for Microsoft 365 and webmail.

1. If you are prompted for a verification code, open Microsoft Authenticator and enter the 6-digit code.

1. Tap Log In. Your courses appear on the Dashboard.

View your courses

1. Tap a course card on the Dashboard to open it.

1. Inside a course, use the menu to reach Announcements, Assignments, Grades, Modules, and the Syllabus.

Submit an assignment from the app

1. Open the course, tap Assignments, and choose the assignment you need to turn in.

1. Tap Submit Assignment.

1. Choose how you want to submit (for example, take or upload a photo, attach a file, or enter text), then add your file or text.

1. Tap Submit and wait for the confirmation that it was turned in.

Turn on notifications

1. Tap the menu or your profile picture, then tap Settings (or Notification Preferences).

1. Turn on the notifications you want, such as new announcements, assignment due dates, and grade postings.

1. If push notifications still aren't appearing, open your device's own Settings, find the Canvas Student app, and allow Notifications there too.

Tips

• The app uses the same login as the Canvas website, so any password change applies to both. After a password change, it can take about 5 to 10 minutes for Canvas to sync.
• If a course is missing, your instructor may not have published it yet, or you may not be enrolled yet. Check back later or ask your instructor.
• If the app is acting up, the website at jerseycollege.instructure.com/login/ldap is a good backup for important deadlines.
