Frequently Asked Question

Welcome to Jersey College! This checklist walks you through the main accounts and apps you will use as a student. Work through the steps in order.

First, know your account basics:

• Your username is your firstname.lastname (for example, jane.doe) with NO @jerseycollege.edu on the end.
• Your full email address is your firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu.
• You use the SAME password for Microsoft 365, your email, and Canvas.

Now follow the checklist:

1. Sign in to your Jersey College email. Go to https://outlook.office.com and sign in with your FULL email address (firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu) and your password. Check your inbox regularly - important school and class messages are sent here.
2. Set up your security (MFA). The first time you sign in, you'll be asked to set up Multi-Factor Authentication using the Microsoft Authenticator app. Install Microsoft Authenticator from your phone's app store, then follow the prompts to add your Jersey College account. 3. Know how to reset your password. If you ever forget it, reset it yourself at https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/?whr=jerseycollege.edu. The same password covers email, Office, and Canvas.
4. Install Microsoft Office for free. As an enrolled student you can install Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more) at no cost on up to 5 devices. Go to https://office.com, sign in, and look for the option to install Office. You can also use the online versions right from that page.
5. Log in to Canvas. Canvas is where your courses, assignments, and grades-in-progress live. Go to https://jerseycollege.instructure.com/login/ldap and sign in with your Jersey College credentials. If you just changed your password, give Canvas about 5 to 10 minutes to sync. For Canvas on your phone, install the Canvas Student app and search for "Jersey College" (or enter jerseycollege.instructure.com).
6. Install Examplify for secured exams. If your program uses Examplify (ExamSoft), download, install, and register it ahead of your first exam, and do a practice/mock exam first. Follow the Help Desk's published Examplify articles.
7. Find your student portal. Your student portal is where you can view your class schedule, official grades, and account/financial information. Use the link from the Jersey College student resources page, or ask the Help Desk for the address.

Helpful tips:

• Use the same password everywhere. If you ever change it, it changes for email, Office, and Canvas all at once.
• Keep Microsoft Authenticator on a phone you carry with you - you'll need it each time you're asked for MFA.
• Student tutorial videos are available at https://www.jerseycollege.edu/student-resources/video-resources.
• If something doesn't work right away, double-check that you used your FULL email (with @jerseycollege.edu) on sign-in pages, and just your username where a username is requested.
