Frequently Asked Question
Update your web browser to the latest version (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox)
Last Updated 25 days ago
Keeping your browser up to date fixes security holes and stops many "this page won't load" or "this site isn't supported" problems. Most browsers update themselves automatically, but here is how to check and finish an update yourself. In all three browsers, an update finishes only after you close and reopen the browser.
Google Chrome
- Open Chrome.
- Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
- Click "Help," then "About Google Chrome."
- Chrome checks for updates and downloads any it finds automatically.
- If it says "Relaunch," click it (or close and reopen Chrome) to finish.
- When done, the page will say "Chrome is up to date."
Microsoft Edge
- Open Edge.
- Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
- Click "Help and feedback," then "About Microsoft Edge."
- Edge checks for updates and downloads any it finds automatically.
- If it says "Restart," click it (or close and reopen Edge) to finish.
- When done, the page will say "Microsoft Edge is up to date."
Mozilla Firefox
- Open Firefox.
- Click the three lines in the top-right corner.
- Click "Help," then "About Firefox."
- Firefox checks for updates and downloads any it finds automatically.
- If it offers a "Restart to update Firefox" button, click it (or close and reopen Firefox) to finish.
- When done, the window will say "Firefox is up to date."
Tips
- If you do not see an update option, your browser may already be current, or updates may be managed by Jersey College IT on a campus computer. That is normal.
- A restart is required to fully apply an update, so save any open work first.
- On a personal computer, also keep Windows up to date, since browser updates sometimes depend on it. (See the published article on installing Windows Updates.)
- An outdated browser is a common reason Canvas, Examplify, or Office 365 pages stop working correctly, so update first when troubleshooting.
