Frequently Asked Question

Take a HESI exam delivered through Evolve / HESI
Last Updated 25 days ago

HESI exams are delivered through Evolve/HESI, and how you get into each HESI exam is set by your instructor. The exact steps differ from exam to exam, so your instructor's instructions always come first. This article covers the general flow and how to get ready.

Before the exam:

  1. Get the access details from your instructor. Depending on the exam, your instructor will tell you how it's accessed (for example, as an assignment in your course, through a payment or voucher you redeem, or by an exam ID you'll enter). Only your instructor can provide these.
  2. Make sure you can sign in to Evolve ahead of time at https://evolve.elsevier.com so you're not resetting a password at exam time.
  3. Use a computer with a current, supported web browser and a reliable internet connection. A wired connection or a strong Wi-Fi signal is best.
  4. Close other programs and browser tabs, and turn off pop-up blockers if your instructor or the on-screen instructions ask you to. Plug in your laptop or make sure it's fully charged.

Taking the exam:

  1. Sign in to https://evolve.elsevier.com with your Evolve email and password.
  2. Open the HESI exam the way your instructor told you, for example by opening the assignment, redeeming the voucher/payment, or entering the exam ID provided.
  3. Carefully follow the on-screen instructions and any specific directions from your instructor for that exam.
  4. Work steadily and avoid refreshing or using the browser's Back button unless the exam tells you to, since that can interrupt your session.
  5. When you finish, follow the prompts to submit, and wait for the confirmation that your exam was submitted before closing the window.

Tips and warnings:

  • Your instructor is the only source for exam IDs, vouchers, payment details, and access instructions. The Help Desk cannot provide them.
  • Test your sign-in and your internet a day or two early, especially if you're testing from home.
  • If you lose connection during the exam, don't panic. Note the time, try to sign back in, and contact your instructor right away about what happened.
