Frequently Asked Question
vSim for Nursing is a set of virtual patient simulations (from Laerdal and Wolters Kluwer/Lippincott) that run right in your web browser. You usually reach vSim through Lippincott CoursePoint+ on thePoint or through a link in your Canvas course. Running the vendor's system check first will save you most common headaches.
Step 1 - Run the system and browser check first:
- Before your first simulation, run the vendor's system or browser check so you know your computer is ready.
- Use a modern, up-to-date browser (such as Chrome or Edge) and a stable internet connection. A wired connection or strong Wi-Fi works best.
- Make sure your browser is allowed to play audio, since simulations include sound.
Step 2 - Open vSim:
- Sign in to Canvas at https://jerseycollege.instructure.com/login/ldap and open your course, then look for a vSim, CoursePoint, or Lippincott link in the navigation menu or a module. Clicking it usually signs you in automatically.
- If you do not have a Canvas link, sign in to thePoint at https://thepoint.lww.com and open vSim from your CoursePoint+ course or your "My Content" list.
- If you need to redeem an access code first, follow the redemption steps on thePoint using the code from your textbook or instructor.
Step 3 - Launch and run a simulation:
- Open your assigned vSim scenario from your course list.
- Review any pre-simulation materials or quiz if your scenario includes them.
- Start the simulation and work through the virtual patient case. Make your assessments and interventions as prompted.
- Complete the full scenario so your work is recorded, then review your feedback and documentation at the end.
Basic troubleshooting:
- The simulation will not load: refresh the page, then try closing and reopening your browser. Make sure pop-up blockers and ad blockers are turned off for the site, and confirm your internet connection is stable. If it still will not load, try a different supported browser.
- No audio: check that your device volume is up and not muted, confirm your browser is allowed to play sound for the site, and try plugging in headphones. Refresh the page after changing audio settings.
- Progress is not saving: always complete a scenario in one sitting when possible, and let it finish before closing the tab. A dropped internet connection can interrupt saving, so use a stable connection. If your completion did not record, reopen the scenario from your course list and check whether it needs to be finished.
Tips:
- Your Lippincott (thePoint) password is separate from your Jersey College password. Reset it with the "Forgot your password" link on thePoint.
- Access codes and scenario assignments come from your instructor or your redeemed course, not from the Help Desk.
What the Help Desk can and cannot do:
- We can help with general browser, audio, and connection issues and your Jersey College account.
- We cannot provide access codes, assign scenarios, or reset your Lippincott password. For course content and codes, contact your instructor.
If you're still having trouble, contact the Jersey College Help Desk at 201-645-1164 or itsupport@jerseycollege.edu.
