Frequently Asked Question

Canvas is the learning system where you'll find your courses, assignments, and grades. You sign in to Canvas with the same Jersey College account you use for email and Office 365.

What you'll use to sign in:

• Your username is firstname.lastname (for example, jane.smith) WITHOUT @jerseycollege.edu. If Canvas sends you to a Microsoft sign-in screen, use your full email address instead: firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu.
• Your password is the same Jersey College password you use for email and Microsoft 365.

To log in:

1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari).
2. Go to the Jersey College Canvas sign-in page: https://jerseycollege.instructure.com/login/ldap
3. Enter your username (firstname.lastname), or your full email if you're on a Microsoft sign-in screen, then enter your Jersey College password.
4. If you're asked to verify your identity, approve the request using the Microsoft Authenticator app (the multi-factor app Jersey College uses).
5. You should land on your Canvas Dashboard, where your current courses appear as cards.

If you just reset your password and Canvas won't accept it:

Canvas and Microsoft 365 share the same password, but Canvas can take about 5 to 10 minutes to catch up after a password change. If your new password works for email but not Canvas:

1. Wait about 5 to 10 minutes after resetting your password.
2. Close the browser completely and reopen it, or open a private/incognito window so an old saved password isn't used.
3. Make sure you're typing the NEW password, and that Caps Lock is off.
4. Try logging in to Canvas again.

Tips:

• The same username and password work for Microsoft 365 (Office, Outlook) AND Canvas. If you can sign in to your email at https://outlook.office.com but not Canvas, the most common cause is the 5 to 10 minute Canvas sync delay after a password change.
• If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it yourself at https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/?whr=jerseycollege.edu, then wait a few minutes before trying Canvas again.
