Frequently Asked Question
My account was disabled or I can't sign in after a long time away -- how do I get back in?

If it has been a while since you last signed in and now you can't get into your Jersey College account, don't worry - this is usually easy to sort out. Work through the steps below in order.
- Try signing in to your email first. Go to https://outlook.office.com and sign in with your full email (firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu) and your password. Sometimes the account is fine and you just need to log in again.
- If your password isn't working or you've forgotten it, use the self-service password reset. Go to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/?whr=jerseycollege.edu and follow the prompts to reset it. This same password works for both Microsoft 365 and Canvas; Canvas usually syncs within about 5 to 10 minutes.
- After resetting your password, go back to https://outlook.office.com and try signing in again with your new password.
- If you still can't get in, your account may have been disabled because it wasn't used for a while. Accounts that aren't signed into within a 3-month period CAN be disabled - it isn't automatic, but it can happen to inactive accounts. If you think this is the case, contact the Jersey College Help Desk and ask about reactivating your account.
Tips:
- Make sure you're using firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu (your full email) when signing in, not just your username on its own.
- Once you're back in, sign in every so often at https://outlook.office.com to keep your account active going forward.
- If you get a message that your account is disabled or locked, that's your cue to contact the Help Desk - they can confirm the status and help you get back in.
If you're still having trouble, contact the Jersey College Help Desk at 201-645-1164 or itsupport@jerseycollege.edu.
