Frequently Asked Question

If you've forgotten your Jersey College password and can't sign in, you can reset it yourself without waiting for the Help Desk. (If you already know your current password and just want to change it, see "How to change your Jersey College Password.") Your Jersey College password is the SAME for Microsoft 365 (email and Office) and Canvas, so resetting it once updates all of them.

Before you start:

• Have your full email address ready (firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu).
• Have your phone with the Microsoft Authenticator app handy to verify your identity.
• Choose a new password you'll remember but others can't guess.

Reset your password:

1. Open a web browser and go to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/?whr=jerseycollege.edu
2. Enter your account (your full email, firstname.lastname@jerseycollege.edu) and complete the CAPTCHA.
3. Verify your identity using the method Microsoft offers - for example, approve the request or enter the code from the Microsoft Authenticator app.
4. Enter your new password, then confirm it by typing it again.
5. Submit to finish.

After you reset your password:

• Use your NEW password everywhere - email (https://outlook.office.com), Office.com, and Canvas.
• Most systems update within a few minutes. Canvas can take about 5 to 10 minutes to sync; if it doesn't accept the new password right away, wait about 10 minutes and try again.
• Update the password on your phone and any apps (like the Outlook or Canvas Student app) so they stop using the old one.

Tips for a good password:

• Make it long - a short phrase you can remember works well.
• Don't reuse a password from another website.
• Never share your password with anyone. Jersey College staff will never ask you for it.
